What Is Time-Of-Use [TOU]
Time-of-use is a electricity pricing program where the cost of energy changes based on the time of day, weekday, or season.
Most Minnesota utility companies have TOU rate plans as optional for each home owner to partake in.
These rate plans exist to give users an incentive to consume more energy on ‘Off Peak’ & ‘Mid Peak’ times to lesson the energy demand that is placed on the grid during ‘On Peak’ times.
This data is based off of 2026 Xcel TOU Summer pricing (June-September)
Standard Xcel summer energy rate without TOU is 0.13¢ per kWh
